i hate short films

yep, me too.
10 minutes can be just perfect. I see no reason at all why a film 'must' be 900 minutes long, Im sure its a conspiracy of some sort. Besides nowadays most films demand over 2 hours of your attention. Who do they think they are?????? You seen Magnolia??? What a pile of shite, dead promising, but took the piss. I sat for 2 hours waiting for it to spice up, and it did nothing, except rain frogs. Which was great, but npot worth a sore arse for. Cant see what the fuss is about.
What ever happened to shorts before the feature???? Fucking distributors thats what. Fucking multiplexes and 'standards'.

One of the best films Ive seen was a short.
Nothing wrong with short stories so why not short films???????
As it is people only consider them as calling cards. Just because SOMEONE said a film should be 90 minutes long. Why 90 minutes?? Well I think its because that was the longest you could reasonably expect a person with a 20/30 minute concentration span (90% of the worlds population) to sit through a three act drama, and so be able to call it an event. An epic. A moment. These days people like Speilburg and Jean luc Besson are stretching this to 3 hours, because we've all got so much more time on our hands and demand longer escapism.

And all this is nonsense, because people have been making films as long as they wanted for years, cinemas just NEVER show them, video distributors rarely do. You have to hunt them out. And not just arty farty films either, 90 minutes......Pppffffaaaaa

Id take you up on this Mitch, but as a director Id have to slow it all down to fill out a 90 minute slot, or put in 70 minutes of irrelivant filler to make up the time.

really i love them...saw the one at the end of the "Snatch" VHS..thought it was great.

As a wannabe writer...this sucks. You can't get anyone too shoot your work...I just want to write, not direct...not DoP...just write...OK!

Haven't seen Snatch myself, looks too similar to Lock Stock. Probably see it eventually though I've no doubt it will be entertaining.

BTW, there is a rumour that Ritchie may be directing a remake of Scarface.

I think 30 minutes can make either a short drama or a short shit your pants horror movie, but it all depends on who is writing, directing, acting and editing, so 30 minutes can equal a masterpiece, it depends on the people making the film,

On the "Snatch" issue as we are, I didn't see it at the cinema but I've seen it on DVD and, yes it's similar to lock stock, but I thought it was great. The dialogue and Ricthie's shooting style are excellent (in my opinion).

Them1tch, you're an unusual entity in low-budget filmmaking someone who writes but doesn't want to direct. I want to direct but convincing someone to let a first-time director use their script is somewhat difficult so I write my own stuff. It doesn't come naturally but it does mean that I have something that I really understand and am passionate about.

Good luck with it though. Don't let it get you down.
